Bengali Style Chana Dal

Bengali Style Chana Dal is a delicious lentil dish cooked with Bengal gram or chana dal. This dish of dal is flavored with coconut, ghee and an assortment of whole spices.
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Chana Dal
- 1 tsp Ghee
- 1/2 Cup Coconut, chopped
- 1 Sticks Cinnamon
- 1 Bay Leaf
- 1 Clove
- 1/4 Cup Raisins
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- A pinch of Sugar
- 2 1/2 Cups Water
For Tadka
- 1 tsp Ghee
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 2 Nos Bay Leaves
- 2 Nos Cloves
- 1 Sticks Cinnamon
- 4 Nos Cardamom
- 2 Nos Red Chilli Whole
Method:
- Soak a cup of chana dal for about ten minutes.
- Take ghee in a pan and add chopped coconut to it.
- Pan fry coconut till golden brown.
- Take soaked chana dal in a pressure cooker.
- Add cinnamon, clove, bay leaf, raisins, fried coconut, turmeric, salt and sugar to the cooker.
- Mix thoroughly and add water.
- Pressure cook it.
Prepare Tadka:
- Take ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and red chilli whole.
- Saute them thoroughly with the ghee.
- Pour it over the cooked dal in the pressure cooker. Mix well.
- Serve the Bengali Style Chana Dal hot with garnishing of chopped and fried coconut.
